A Look at How Vitamin & Mineral Deficiencies Can Tank Your Health

Could it be a micronutrient deficiency?

If you haven’t been feeling up to par, you may be looking at different aspects of your diet and lifestyle to try and figure out what is going on. This can be a daunting and arduous process to whittle down and figure out what the offending behavior, food, or missing ingredient is.

One place we recommend starting is to look at possible vitamin or mineral deficiencies. This can easily be done with bloodwork at any lab with a doctor’s script.

Today we wanted to give you a brief, but effective, overview of what the most common deficiencies can do in so far as causing symptoms. Take a look.

Vitamin A – trouble seeing at night, xerophthalmia, infections, skin issues, stunted growth

Vitamin B – shortness of breath, headaches, indigestion, heart palpitations, weak or tired feeling, bowel issues

Vitamin C – fatigue, depression rash, internal bleeding, impaired wound healing, dry hair, dry skin, bruising more easily, bleeding

Vitamin D – fatigue, insomnia, feelings of sadness, hair loss, muscle weakness, not being hungry, getting sick easily.

Vitamin E – vision problems, muscle weakness, loss of feeling in limbs

Vitamin K – bleeding issues and bone development problems

Iron – brittle nails, pale skin, weakness, cold hands and feet, inflammation or soreness of the tongue, chest pain, dizziness

Selenium – depressed mood, anxiety, and confusion. May lead to thyroid issues if not addressed

Magnesium – nausea, constipation, headaches, leg cramps, weakness, heart palpitations, tremors

Zinc – hair loss, skin changes, eye problems, infections, loss of taste or smell, diarrhea

If it is found that you are lacking any of these vital micronutrients, they will then be suggested through dietary intake or prescribed through supplementation until optimal levels are reached and maintained.

If you aren’t feeling well or just noticing small things feel off – Don’t ignore it. Your body is trying to tell you something.
